Mayumi Kinniku, typically referred to as King Kinniku, is the father of Suguru Kinniku and the husband of Sayuri Kinniku.

About[]

Mayumi Kinniku is the father of Ataru and Suguru Kinniku and the 57th King of Planet Kinniku. He has the character (Ō) written on his forehead. He is a former Chojin Olympic V2 Champion as well as a Universal Grappling Champion. He acts as a minor supporting role in the initial series.

Personality[]

Mayumi is a bit of a goofball, often arguing with Suguru and embarrassing his wife Sayuri in the process. Despite his comedic behaviour, he has shown to care deeply about his family.

Relationships[]

Family[]

Because strict training caused his eldest son Ataru to run away, he raises his second son Suguru very indulgently. However, frequently quarrelling with Suguru, wanting to strangle his neck as a child because of his stupid face, and mistaking him for a pig and subsequently abandoning him on Earth are just a few of the examples of how Mayumi fails as a father. Nonetheless, whenever Suguru fights, and especially when he is winning, Mayumi cheers loudly for him and brags that he is his son. When he was younger, he would often visit his imprisoned uncle Sadaharu with Harabote.

Harabote Muscle[]

He has a fierce and long-standing rivalry with Harabote Muscle (the future chairman of the Chojin League), and the two of them frequently appear in exhibition matches which are unpopular with the younger fans.

Sayuri Kinniku[]

He is married to Sayuri Kinniku, and although she is embarrassed by how he sometimes behaves, the two are very much in love with one another. Much to her annoyance, the only food he knows how to cook is curry. Despite being a descendant of the Royal Kinniku Family (キン肉王家, Kinniku Ouke), he does not know any of the 3 Great Secrets of the Kinniku Clan and never uses the Face Flash.

History[]

Prehistory[]

Mayumi was born to Tatsunori Kinniku, the 56th King of Planet Kinniku and inventor of the Niku Curtain. Other than a fierce and long-standing rivalry with Harabote Muscle, no major accomplishments of his are ever mentioned, and how he ever became king is unknown.

In his childhood, he would regularly play with Harabote Muscle, who would visit him from the neighbouring Planet Harabote. [2] They found a forbidden area while playing with one another, and entered into a secret building located within the area, where they found the prison cell that contained Nemesis. Mayumi reveals his father - Tatsunori - speaks fondly of Nemesis, calling him the kindest man that ever lived. Nemesis makes Mayumi promise that - when he is king - he will work hard to create a Kinniku Clan in which no one suffers as Nemesis has suffered. [2] Mayumi speaks of many memories of the fractured Kinniku Clan, and many assassination attempts on Tatsunori, and how his father was kidnapped and attacked, developing the Niku Curtain to survive. [3]

After becoming king he marries Sayuri Kinniku and the two eventually have a son named Ataru and years later another one named Suguru. When Sayuri is still pregnant with Suguru, Ataru runs away from home due to his strict training and conflict with his parents. [4] While vacationing on Earth, Mayumi mistakes a pig for baby Suguru and throws Suguru out of the spaceship in place of the pig. [5] The pig - King Tōn - grows up as prince in Suguru's place and overthrows Mayumi.

Kinnikuman[]

1st Kaiju Extermination Arc[]

During the absence of Kinnikuman, Mayumi loses his championship belt to King Ton; he loses two matches to one, after a period of 65 minutes. [6] This led to Mayumi losing his crown, as King Ton becomes king in his stead. Desperate to reclaim his throne, Mayumi sends Meat to Earth to retrieve Kinnikuman in order to defeat King Ton. Mayumi warmly greets Kinnikuman and tells him of his name, for the first time: Suguru. They convince Suguru to do battle against King Ton, and Mayumi supports Suguru from the ringside. [6]

Suguru turns out to be a goofy failure and loses. Fortunately, the chef that once owned Tōn arrives to reclaim him, giving Mayumi a chance to snatch the King's Belt back when nobody is looking and reclaim the throne. He then has Meat take Suguru back to Earth in order to train him, after declaring that he has decided to adopt Shigeru instead of Suguru as his son. [6]

Mayumi returns sporadically throughout this arc. He next appears to state that Meat has been pretending to be Suguru, in order to solve crimes and protect Suguru's reputation, but it is revealed that Sayuri was solving crimes all along (dressed as Suguru). [7] He is next seen hiding in a trash-can on Planet Kinniku, where he calls upon Suguru to defeat a Kaiju named Dai King. [8]

20th Chojin Olympics Arc[]

Mayumi crashes into Beverly Park with an umbrella from space. [9] He declares that he has chosen Suguru to be the representative of Japan in the upcoming Chojin Olympics, and reveals Uldraman dropped out of the competition due to losing against Robin Mask in the previous year. It is declared Japan will not be competing that year, which prompts Mayumi to speak to the committee. He traps Harabote Muscle in a figure-four leg-lock, and - after some teasing between them - Robin Mask suggested an idea. [9]

He watches as Robin Mask challenges Suguru to a sparring contest, to see if he's worthy of entering the Olympics, and - by a fluke - Suguru manages to prove his worth and earn the right to participate. [9] Mayumi later reappears at the start of the Olympics to explain the rules to the participants. [10] He also appears to sporadically cheer on Suguru during the preliminaries. [11] Mayumi spends much of this arc arguing with Harabote, while also supporting Suguru and watching his matches from the sidelines. [12]

American Tour Arc[]

He and the rest of the Kinniku Planet were waiting for the comeback of Suguru, and just as they see how the ship starts to land...it quickly fly away, leaving all the presents ones confused about that weird behaviour.

2nd Kaiju Extermination Arc[]

Suguru returns back at Planet Kinniku, while Mayumi is reading a newspaper about how Suguru lost his championship title. [13] Mayumi chastises him for only returning home due to a lack of money. While watching television, they receive a letter telling them to go to Muscle Field in return for Meat Alexandria (who has been held hostage by the Horumon Clan. A duel is decided between Suguru and Bibimba, and Suguru wins the duel, thus saving Meat from the Horumon Clan. [13] Mayumi later arranges for Suguru to return to Earth. [14]

21st Chojin Olympics Arc[]

Mayumi and the rest of Kinnikuman came to his house to encourage him to enter the new Olympics. He then became one of Suguru's main supporters during the preliminaries, as well as helping them in some of the matches, like when he helped him during his match against Wolf. He trained with him in order to find a way of disarming Warsman, and then, he is the one that reveal that, if a member of the Kinniku Clan loses his mask and his face is exposed, he will have to face death.

Seven Devil Chojin Arc[]

While the chojin were in their Fan Appreciation day, he and Harabote were talking about seven of the most vicious and cruel chojin ever to exist, been glad that they were sealed about. Unlucky for then, Kinnikuman fee them by accident, starting a series of matches between the Idol Chojin and the Seven Devil Chojin.

Dream Chojin Tag Arc[]

Mayumi and Harabote discover that a new Mt. Fuji has appeared out of nowere with a trophy at its top. Searching for awnsers, Harabote discovers that is an ancient arena destined for tag matches, so he concert a new tournament, now with tag teams instead of individual fights. He then goes to see if Suguru has found a partner to enter, since the rest of the Idol Chojin have decided to ignore him.

He then finds out the Prince Kamehame, the one that defeated Kinnikuman in the past, and the same old chojin that taught him the 48 Killer techniques. He stays in the side-lines for the rest of the tournament, until Suguru looses an arm. After Kinnikuman recovers, Mayumi stays as a supportive character for the rest of the final match.

Survivor Match Arc[]

Mayumi attends Suguru's coronation ceremony, along with his wife Sayuri Kinniku. [15] Suguru is accepted by almost the entire pantheon of gods, except the Five Evil Gods, who declare he must take part in a new tournament to determine his right to be king. They reveal to Mayumi that on the day Suguru was born, five other children were also born, and - due to a fire at hospital - Suguru may not be his biological son. [15] Mayumi attacks Harabote for not believing in his son's legitimacy, but ultimately decides that he must be impartial as king, and thus concedes that the Five Evil Gods' plan for a tournament is best. [16]

Despite claiming to be impartial, Mayumi often offers support to Suguru. [17] Mayumi later reveals that Kinnikuman Mariposa's Muscle Revenge technique is a fake, which eliminates him as a possible candidate for the throne, and hopes that Suguru will master one of the Three Secret Techniques of the Kinniku Clan, so as to prove his legitimacy to the throne. [18] Mayumi later removes the Kinniku Clan's Chojin Prophecy Book, which has a written record of all events of the series to date, and speaks of events to come. [19]

During the tournament, Sayuri speaks of Ataru Kinniku. [4] It is revealed the two had a son before Suguru, who ran away from home, and the two vow not to speak of him again. [4] They begin to suspect that Kinnikuman Soldier is Ataru in disguise, at which point Sayuri knocks over the Prophecy Book, where another prophetic prediction is revealed. [20] They manage to deduce that Kinnikuman Soldier is Ataru, who is willing to sacrifice himself to help his little brother: Suguru. [21] A black hawk then descends to steal a page of the book that Mayumi is holding in his hands. [22] This leads to Ataru being slowly wiped from existence. [23]

A photograph of Ataru shows that Ataru is starting to disappear, due to the page that was stolen being his page and now the page is being burned by Team Phoenix. Mayumi tries to leave to save Ataru, but is stopped by the guards that demand he remain impartial. [23] Together, Sayuri and Mayumi grieve his death. [24] Later, during the match between Suguru and Phoenixman, Mayumi uncovers a prophecy that the fake prince will have a heart defect, and both princes begin to cough blood in the ring. [25] They realise that they can determine who is the real prince by an x-ray, instead of a deadly battle to possible death.

They try to leave to tell the competitors, but are stopped by the guards. They proceed to fight the guards, but are saved by Bibimba, who has come to save them and support Suguru, and together they flee towards the ring to reveal the news. [25] They come across Meat on their way to the match; Mayumi radio-contacted him in hospital, which led to Meat going back to Planet Kinniku to retrieve x-ray results, but their conversation is being recorded by a transmitting device. [26] This leads to them being kidnapped. [26]

After confiscating the x-ray, their kidnappers - Team Phoenix - take them to the floor above. [27] Mayumi proceeds to watch the following match between Team Phoenix and Team Kinnikuman with Sayuri. [28] Once Kinnikuman wins the match, Mayumi is there to celebrate alongside him on the ring. [29]

Kinnikuman 2011[]

Perfect Origin Arc[]

During the Perfect Origin Arc Mayumi and Harabote ask to become official chairmen and referees for the final leg of the feud between Justice Chojin, Devil Chojin and Perfect Chojin, finally revealing to Suguru what he really knew about Nemesis and Tatsunori.

Mayumi recites the lesson taught to him by Nemesis. [2] In his childhood, he would regularly play with Harabote Muscle, who would visit him from the neighbouring Planet Harabote. They found a forbidden area while playing with one another, and entered into a secret building located within the area, where they found the prison cell that contained Nemesis. [2]

Mayumi states he took those lessons to heart, and created a Kinniku Clan to which Nemesis would be proud, and asks Nemesis to spare Kinnikuman, but Nemesis states he still seeks to destroy the Kinniku Clan. [30] Nemesis then prompts Mayumi to reveal the true story of the Niku Curtain. [3] Mayumi speaks of many memories of the fractured Kinniku Clan, and many assassination attempts on Tatsunori, and how his father was kidnapped and attacked, developing the Niku Curtain to survive. [3] Nemesis states that this act of betrayal proves the Kinniku Clan isn't worth saving, and offers Kinnikuman and Mayumi the chance to join him as Perfect Chojin. [3]

During the Arc, Mayumi is deeply touched by Suguru's action, coming to understand how, despite his rough early origins, Suguru had finally grown into a capable king embodying Tatsunori's legacy.

Omega Centauri's Six Spears Arc[]

Mayumi and the rest of the court was present in the Kinniku Palace, giving medals to the Idol Chojin for their work during the Perfect Origin problem. But suddenly, a magic barrier appeared out of nowhere, trapping all inside the castle for the rest of the arc.

Kinnikuman Nisei[]

Hercules Factory Arc[]

Mayumi appears as a 100 year-old man. [31] He reveals to Bibimba why Suguru is in training, by showing her a video of the DMp on Earth, before accusing Suguru and Bibimba of having spoiled Mantaro. [31] He later heads a secret conference among the Justice Chojin with Harabote Muscle, where he is teased for having mistaken Suguru for King Ton. [32] After Mantaro finishes his training at the Hercules Factory, Mayumi attends with Bibimba for his graduation. [33]

Mayumi has had a relatively small role in Nisei, appearing only in the first few chapters (where it seems his wife Sayuri Kinniku has died) and the current story-line. He has pretty much the same relationship with Mantaro Kinniku that he did with the earlier, bumbling and useless Suguru.

Ultimate Chojin Tournament Arc[]

In the current story-line (a Tag Tournament in the past), he and Harabote have resumed their roles as main supporting characters.

(More to Come)

During Mantaro's training for the final match against the Five Disasters, Mayumi lurks on the side-lines in a hooded disguise. [34] Meat uses a Kinniku Cutter on him, forcing him to reveal his true identity, and - now convinced of Mantaro's status as his grandson - decides to help Mantaro to train. He reveals to Mantaro the Three Secret Techniques of the Kinniku Clan, and asks that Mantaro master one of them. [34] A second hooded figure throws a staff at the image of the Muscle Spark, triggering memories in Meat, and they decide that shall be the one of the Three Techniques that Mantaro will master, as they head to Nara. [30]
