The Kinnikuman anime is the 1983 adaptation of the Kinnikuman manga.

About

The Kinnikuman anime was broadcasted April 3, 1983~October 1, 1986 on Sundays from 10:00~10:30 am on NTV and was produced by Toei Animation. On April 9, 1986 it switched to Tuesdays from 7:00~7:30 pm. 137 episodes were made before its cancellation. It was followed 5 years later by Kinnikuman: Scramble for the Throne.

Summary

Kinnikuman is titled after its main character: Kinnikuman.

Kinnikuman is initially a lazy and comedic chojin, who has been abandoned on Earth as a child. He develops many friendships over the course of the series, and learns that he is the prince of Planet Kinniku, at which point he strives to become a chojin wrestler and prove his worth as a future king. After becoming a two-time Olympic champion, he is tested by the Five Evil Gods to prove his worth; he proves himself to the gods and becomes king of Planet Kinniku.
