As a Perfect Chojin, I couldn’t call myself a man if I went back on a deal!
— Neptuneman [1]

Neptuneman is a character in the Kinnikuman (anime) series. He later reappears in the manga-only arc of Kinnikuman Nisei.

About

Neptuneman (ネプチューンマン) is a character in the comedic superhuman wrestling comic Kinnikuman. Originally appearing as a villain, like many such characters he turned over a new leaf after losing to Kinnikuman. He was modelled after Hulk Hogan and even used an Axe Bomber-type clothesline (which Hogan was more known for using in Japan) as his trademark move.

Story

Kinnikuman

Prehistory

Neptuneman's true name is Quarrelman (喧嘩男 Kenkaman), (he was also called Street Scrapper in the US), and he is a Perfect Chojin from England. He was an incredibly powerful wrestler, so much so that he found it impossible to find opponents who could challenge him. Quarrelman even told Robin Mask that he (Robin) was too weak to fight him.

He tried to end his life by jumping into the River Thames, but in doing so found the place where Neptune King, another Perfect Chojin, had been in hibernation. Neptune King had escaped from the world years ago after Chojin Wrestling began to become less about battle and more about tournaments. He longed for the days of Death Matches, which Quarrelman found fascinating. Neptune King gave Quarrelman the Neptune Mask and rechristened him Neptuneman, and he himself wore a mask and became Big the Budo. Both masks gave them Magnet Power (transferred straight from The Earth itself) and increased their strength many fold.

Dream Chojin Tag Arc

Neptuneman and Big the Budo entered the Universal Tag-Team Tournament as the Hell Missionaries, planning to defeat and steal the masks of the chojin competitors. Then, they would give the masks to Big the Budo's henchmen, so that 'Kinnikuman' and 'Robin Mask' would be working for them. Meanwhile, the henchmen were flying on their way to Earth...all 1,000 of them.

The Hell Missionaries disguised themselves during the preliminaries, revealing themselves to punish Screw Kid and Kendaman for losing to the 20 Million Powers (Mongolman/Buffaloman). In the first round of the finals, the Hell Missionaries fought the Master/Student Chojin Combo, Warsman and Robin Mask, the latter of whom recognised Neptuneman for who he was (or used to be). The match ended with Warsman dead, and both of them unmasked by the Hell Missionaries' Cross Bomber move. In the second round, the Hell Missionaries went up against the 20 Million Powers, and the match ended in the Perfect Chojin's favour, with Mongolman unmasked and revealed to be Ramenman. In the final match, the fight was held in a three round 'Sword-floor' death-match Big the Budo designed against the Muscle Brothers, Kinnikuman and Kinnikuman Great.

Though the first round ended in the Hell Missionaries' favour, with Great revealed to be Terryman, the victory ultimately went to the Machine Guns when Budo began using the swords from the 'Sword-floor' death-match. The use of weapons was against the rules of the Perfect Chojin, and Neptuneman turned on his mentor for doing so. After the fight, Neptuneman flew into the sky and self-destructed, signalling for the Perfect Chojin army to retreat.

Survivor Match for the Kinniku Throne

With the help of his Perfect Chojins, Neptuneman is revived illegally and escapes from the Chojin Graveyard. He arrives at the end of the Team Super Phoenix vs. Team Soldier battle and collects the ashes of Ataru Kinniku. He then hides in the bamboo forest in Nara Prefecture where Warsman is training and helps him in his fight against Mammothman with advice. He appears again in the shadows during Geronimo's match against The Omegaman and saves him from the Omega Catastrophe Drop by blowing some of Ataru's ashes into the ring. When he tries it a second time, Geronimo refuses his help, fearing that Omegaman and the Chojin Enma would learn his true identity.

He returns as The Samurai to help Kinnikuman and Robin Mask in a 3-man tag match against Kinnikuman Super Phoenix, Omegaman, and Mammothman. When the Samurai's Muscle Prophecy page is burnt his costume goes away and he is changed back into Neptuneman. Super Phoenix eventually ties him up underneath the string connected to his real page and places a candle on his back. He breaks free anyway, breaking the string and burning his page, in order to take Kinnikuman's place in the Omega Catastrophe Drop, after which he disappears. His soul then helps Robin, Ataru, and Gero free Kinnikuman's Fire of Inner Strength and defeat Super Phoenix. The four of them are later revived by Kinnikuman's Face Flash.

Kinnikuman (2011)

Perfect Origin arc

During the beginning of the arc, Neptuneman shows up to sign the treaty between the Justice Chojin, Devil Chojin and the Perfect Chojin as the Perfect Chojins' representative. As Ashuraman and Neptuneman had helped out Justice Chojin in their own special way, it made perfect sense to sign the treaty.

For most of the arc, Neptuneman is jailed by the Perfect Large Numbers for committing treason against Perfect Chojin. Peek-a-Boo frees Neptuneman just in time for Kinnikuman's match against Nemesis. Just as Kinnikuman is about run away from his destiny, Neptuneman gives Kinnikuman a pep talk with the help of Peek-a-Boo. Kinnikuman's kindness helped out another Perfect Chojin. Kinnikuman must fight Nemesis!

Both Neptuneman and Peek-a-Boo are confident that Kinnikuman can convince Nemesis to change the Perfect Chojin world for the better. It's time for a revolution for the Perfect Chojin world. The current rules are holding the Perfect Chojin back. Neptuneman admits that Silverman was right all along. Neptuneman tried to start a revolution, but it failed miserably. An outsider like Kinnikuman could be the change that the Perfect Chojin needed.

Despite this encouragement, Kinnikuman refuses. Neptuneman brings up his victories against Ramenman and Robin Mask. However, Kinnikuman thinks that those victories were pure flukes. Kinnikuman brings up how Nemesis defeated Ramenman and Robin Mask in fair fights. Kinnikuman is just a phoney.

Irritated by Kinnikuman's self-loathing, Neptuneman places him into a choke-hold. Neptuneman asks if Kinnikuman's victory against him is a fluke. Kinnikuman says that it was. After Neptuneman slaps Kinnikuman aside, Neptuneman decides to kill Kinnikuman with a Quarrel Bomber. Kinnikuman dodges the Quarrel Bomber with ease. However, Neptuneman does another one, but with his Diamond arm. In self-defense, Kinnikuman decides to charge at the Quarrel Bomber and activates his Fire of Inner Strength. As Neptuneman says, "[A person] can leave the ring, but the ring can never leave [them]."

And with that, Neptuneman leaves. Kinnikuman thanks Neptuneman for the pep talk as he returns to his restoration capsule. During the match against Nemesis, Neptuneman and Peek-a-Boo cheered on Nemesis.

Six Spears of Omega Centauri Arc

During the meeting with The Man, Neptuneman and Nemesis reveal themselves to tell that Kinnikuman must fight for the future of mortal Chojin.

Upon seeing Ataru, Nemesis exchanges a few pleasant words with his grand nephew, observing that he's just like Tatsunori Kinniku. However, Ataru corrects Nemesis. Ataru did run away from home and all. In a sense, Ataru's like Sadaharu. History does repeat itself.

The battle against the Gods isn't being waged by one group. It's being waged by all mortal Chojin. And if they lose, they will be wiped out. Neptuneman doesn't know where the Gods will strike next, but he understands that the Gods will come after the Man's Capillaria Ray crystal piece soon. The group must keep that piece out of the Gods' hands no matter the cost.

It's not as simple as that. As the Five Evil Gods still possess their pieces in some fashion, they will also be targets for the God of Harmony's faction. The God of Brutality told Ataru all about the God of Harmony's plan in advance. As a result, Meat states that the Fated Princes have become leads for Kinnikuman's group as they've survived their matches. Aristera reminds everyone of the Six Spears' quest to find Magnet Power and Friendship Power. Even if Aristera knows about Friendship Power, he and the other Six Spears can't activate it all because of their grudge towards The Man.

Kinnikuman states that Aristera can activate Friendship Power. He's seen how the Six Spears have fought and knows that he and Aristera aren't so different after all. The Six Spears only fought for the sake of their friends and their home. Kinnikuman brings up his signature catch phrase and shakes Aristera's hand, confusing the Omega Clan head in the process. Kinnikuman states that he's doing the handshake of friendship, a basic greeting of Justice Chojin. Now that Aristera's come to understand Kinnikuman, he can understand the truth behind Friendship Power.

The Man admits that he and the other Perfect Origin haven't understood Friendship Power completely and admits that Aristera can bring out Friendship Power to its limits. The Man reveals the Mortier de Pileur, explaining that it extracts power from the Earth and turns it into Chojin power. It can be reversed so that it injects Chojin power back into the planet it's resting on. The Man promises to give Aristera the Mortier de Pileur as a way to atone for his past crimes against Omega Centauri. In order to get the Omega Centaurians' help, The Man must solve their planet's problem first. In response, Aristera and Pirateman swear allegiance to The Man.

Ultimate Chojin Tag Arc

Prehistory

For over 30 years Neptuneman lived in England in peace as Quarrelman. But after the Time Chojin attack, he returns to active duty as Neptuneman and sneaks aboard the H.M.S. Kevin Mask time-ship with Mantaro and the New Generation. Neptuneman stunned everyone by choosing mild-mannered Seiuchin as his tag partner. Neptuneman had remembered the story of The Walrus and the Carpenter from his homeland and decided to train Seiuchin to bring out the untapped cold-blooded power in him, transforming him into a violent beast. As "The Hell Expansions", the two of them are collecting the skin off of their opponent's faces instead of masks.

First Round

(More to Come)

Quarter-Finals

This was until the team faced off against the "Hell's Bears", which consisted of Belmond (Warsman) and Michael (Mammothman). Seiuchin fought Mammothman, and in the middle of the match, returned to his senses and betrays Neptuneman. However, Mammothman betrays Warsman and sides with Neptuneman, which leads to both of them knocking off Seiuchin's face with an Optical Fibre Cross Bomber and defeating Warsman.

Before the semi-finals, Satan appears, and Neptuneman and Mammothman reveal their apparent alliance with the Time Chojin (Thunder and Lightning), throwing a spider spawned by Satan at Suguru, which enters his chest and forms into an hourglass.

Semi-Finals

The Nova Hell Expansions attack the Five Disasters with elbow drops, as they try to enter the ring. [2] They continuously strike their backs like a drum, until Lightning tries to counter and is thrown onto the ring in Tournament Mountain, followed by Thunder being blown into the ring by Mammothman's Ear Gust. The Nova Hell Expansions land on the ring, where Neptuneman throws his cape of faces onto the ceiling. The sides of the War-Cube are replaced by walls covered in swords. [2]

Neptuneman begins the match with a Cross Bomber against Lightning. [3] Lightning catches himself on the ropes, and counters an oncoming Quarrel Bomber with a kick to the back of Neptuneman's head. The gong is then officially rung. Mammothman and Thunder collide, shaking the ground. [3] Neptuneman and Lightning tag into the match, trading places with Mammothman and Lightning. [4]

They exchange a series of blows, until Lightning gains an advantage and breaks Neptuneman's left arm. [5] Just as the Nova Hell Expansions attempt an Optical Fibre Cross Bomber in response, Lightning uses his power of Acceleration to escape. [6] Lightning then uses a Double Neck Cut. [6] He escapes another attempt an Optical Fibre Cross Bomber, by forcing them to curve the optical fibres. [7] The Five Disasters then slam both of the Hell Expansions into the ring, and follow with Acceleration to toss both of the Hell Expansions onto the swords outside of the ring. [7]

The Nova Hell Expansions stand again, and Neptuneman uses an Ignition Crash on the Five Disasters. [8] Neptuneman attempts a Quarrel Press, but misses, and follows with a Chojin Hanging on Lightning. This is follows by Mammothman's Nose Freezing. [8] Due to physics, this temporarily stops their Acceleration from working and thus is cannot be used. [9] Later, the Five Disasters then use their exotic matter to revert Mount Fuji to the state of an active volcano, which causes debris and boulders from the eruption to rain down on the Nova Hell Expansions. [10]

Mammothman uses his nose to block further debris from striking Neptuneman. [11] Two rocks strike his legs, which knock him down onto the canvas. This is followed by a Hot Rock Gyro from Lightning, and then the Five Disasters team up for a Giant Beat Cremation. [11] The Five Disasters continue to use tag-team moves on Mammothman, as he rises during the countdown. [12] Neptuneman uses his Magnet Power Comeback to stop another Giant Beat Cremation. [12] He follows with a Quarrel Sword Bomber, while the Five Disasters return to using their Acceleration, but this is stopped short by another Quarrel Sword Bomber. [13]

Neptuneman criticises the Five Disaster, as - even though they are all Evil Chojin - he cannot support their lawless nature and breaking of rules, and he goes to Mammothman's defence. The Five Disasters try to use their Death Watch Branding on Mammothman, but Neptuneman stops them with an Iron Bat Squeeze. [13][14] Mammothman confronts Neptuneman, as his actions go against the teachings of a Perfect Chojin, in that they should not help anyone (not even a team member). [14] He uses a Blind Alley Ear against Thunder.

Mammothman eats the volcanic debris, which helps increase his magnetic power, and - with Neptuneman - engages in a Cross Bomber Resurrection. [14] The attack knocks off a piece of Thunder's mask. [15] It fails to rip off Thunder's mask or face, as it is revealed Mammothman purposely failed the attack in order to destroy Neptuneman's arm, as he seeks to maintain the Perfect Chojin teachings, even if Neptuneman does not. [16]

Thunder then takes out Neptuneman's Achilles heel, and a Lion Comb down Neptuneman's back. [17] A Lion Fan takes out Neptuneman's other arm. [18] Lightning uses his Boiling Sickle to knock the studs off from Neptuneman's shirt, which attach to his own costume, and then uses a Double Leg Suplex, which cracks off Neptuneman's mask. Mammothman forfeits the game and leaves the ring. [18] Neptuneman finally realises the meaning of Friendship Power, but the Five Disasters use a Perfect Decay Finale on him. [19]

This knocks down Neptuneman, as Mammothman leaves with Phoenixman. [19]

He struggles to his feet, as he realises the error of his ways and returns to being a Justice Chojin. [20] He tries to attack, but Lightning reveals that he has a heart defect and will die regardless, and proceed to kill him with a Death Watch Branding. The match is called in the Five Disasters favour, but they flee the ring with Neptuneman's body towards the smouldering Mount Fuji. [20] At this time, Chaos Avenir climbs Tournament Mountain with the device left by Warsman that should go to Neptuneman. [21]

The Five Disasters toss Neptuneman's body into Mount Fuji, but Chaos uses the last of his exotic matter to stop Neptuneman from falling into the lava. [22] Chaos uses his exotic matter to revert Neptuneman back to a perfect state, and jams the device into Neptuneman's chest, which fixes the heart defect. [23] He sends Neptuneman back to the future, so that Neptuneman - as a Justice Chojin - can teach a new generation. [24]

Techniques

Neptune Mask (ネプチューンマスク)
  • The source of Neptuneman's Magnet Power. It takes magnetic energy from The Earth itself and transfers it to Neptuneman's body. Locking a magic keyhole in the Earth's crust is the only way to turn the mask off.
Diamond Arm
  • Neptuneman makes his arm as hard as diamonds. Used when doing a Quarrel Bomber.
Quarrel Bomber (喧嘩(クォーラル)ボンバー)
  • First used on Warsman during the fight with the Chojin Master/Student Combo. It is a simple Axe Bomber-style clothesline. As The Samurai he referred to it as the Iai-Giri Bomber (居合い斬りボンバー, Iai Giri Bonbaa).
Quarrel Special (喧嘩(クォーラル)スペシャル)
  • First used on Kendaman. A variation of the Manji Hold which sees the attacker wraps his leg around the victims neck while pulling on their left arm with both hands.
Double Leg Suplex (ダブル・レッグ・スープレックス)
  • First used on Warsman during the fight with the Chojin Master/Student Combo. Neptuneman grabs an opponent from behind, piercing their back with the spikes on his vest. He then places his hands under their thighs, bends back, and drives them shoulder-first into the canvas.
Judgement Lock-Up (審判のロックアップ, Shinpan no Rokku Appu)
Neptune Sliding (ネプチューン・スライディング)
Magnetic Storm Driver (磁気嵐ドライバー, Jiki Arashi Doraibā)
  • First used during the fight with the 20 Million Powers. A power-bomb move in which the Magnet Power draws the opponent towards the canvas.
Demonic Descent (魔の直滑降, Ma no Chokkakkou)
  • First used during the fight with the Muscle Brothers. A super powerful version of the common back toss.
Chicken Wing Face Lock (鶏の羽交い締め, Niwatori no Hagai Jime)
  • Used as The Samurai. From behind, Neptuneman hooks one arm with one of the opponent's arms behind their back and then places his other arm around their face. He then holds his hands together for a deadly choke.
Quarrel Ride (喧嘩(クォーラル)ライド)
