  • Hey, I'm curious why you deleted the pages for Sphinxman and Kintaman (possibly others?). If the pages need more details, I can punch them up a bit. Think you can reinstate those pages?

    • We decided to implement a notability rule, in line with other wikis such as "Uncharted" and "Kingdom Hearts".If I remember correctly, the two characters in question were not just stubs, but very minor characters that seemed unable to be expanded past basic stats or trivia, and had - indeed - been left as stubs since the creation of this wiki ten years ago. They were thus candidates for deletion.

See: Rules: Notability & Rules: Editors

If you can be certain substantial content could or would be added, more than a few lines (which would be better suited to the "List of Characters" page), I would be happy to restore the pages on the condition more content would be added in the near future.

Hope this helps clear matters 🙂

    • I understand your concern. Perhaps Sphinxman, Kintaman, White Bear Man, etc. are too insignificant for their own pages, but I feel like the List of Kinnikuman characters doesn't quite feel like the right place for this information either. I'd like to propose another approach for how to handle characters like this, and I'd happily take charge in implementing it if you're down with the idea. What if we create a separate page for Minor Kinnikuman Characters (or something similarly titled) that could include this information. I'd also try to figure out a neater way to display it all (including any stats you may otherwise find on a character infobox page).

Once that's done, I'd clean up the List of Kinnikuman Characters to just be a master list of names that link appropriately. Or alternatively, delete the List of Kinnikuman Characters page entirely, and start adding a Kinnikuman Characters category tag on all the character pages including the aforementioned Minor Kinnikuman Characters page. Whaddya think?

    • Sounds perfect 🙂

Feel free to go ahead when you're up to it 👍

    • Great! I'll get started on it in the next day or so.

    • could you temporarily restore the following pages so I can retrieve the info? Armstrong, Sphinxman, Kintaman, Yetiman, Wukongman, Big Magnum, Candelaman?

      Thanks!

    • I might see about adding those on later; it should be quicker, as admins have access to the source of deleted pages, so it can be copied over right away that way, as opposed to restoring, copying, deleting again. Either option needs me or Alkaid to be at a desktop though, so just give us a few hours 🙂

I'm the meantime, I've added your page to the top nav.

You did an absolutely remarkable job, too. It looks incredible, is easy to discern information, and will be very useful to fans looking for those characters. It's something I wish we'd thought of soonet, as it's a very good idea!

      Thank you again!

I'll get back to you in a bit, once the pages are restored or the content is copied over 🙂

    • K. sounds good. When I'm done, I'll also do the same to the List of Unused Characters page. Maybe they should be combined? I'm not sure. It's hard to discern which characters were just submissions and which were featured in small roles. Maybe you guys have some thoughts, insight.

    • I wanna say there might be a page for Angelman too? If not, I'm pretty sure there was at least a pic floating somewhere...?

        Loading editor
    • I am admittedly in two minds.

I recognise it can be easy to make mistakes, as previous administrators seemed to put characters on either list willy-nilly, and I'm half-sure that some of those "minor" characters are submissions, too. I mean, maybe that's reason enough to combine the two into just "unused" characters, for sure. I'll drop Alkaid a message and ask them to give their opinion, and leave it to a sort of group consensus to determine if it should be merged or not. I think I'd be inclined to agree with you, though.

There is indeed an Angelman page :)

I'm going to go through the deleted pages in a short while and restore minor characters to the minor character list, so hopefully it'll all be up and fully completed some time today :)

    • I managed to find the info for most of the guys I asked about. Angelman and Big Magnum are the only ones I still need from the ones I mentioned. Also, let me know if you find anything for Playerman

        Loading editor
    • If you guys feel like it won’t be confusing to merge them, I don’t see why not. :)

Amazing work so far, by the way!

    • Thanks! I'll chip away at all of it and ultimately merge everything onto the List of Minor Kinnikuman Characters page. I guess the next question is, should we be folding Kinnikuman Nisei into that too, or are we keeping that separate? Maybe that's unnecessary. I dunno..

        Loading editor
    • I would probably keep Nisei characters separate, where possible.

Like a list for minor/unused Kinnikuman characters, and one for Nisei characters.

That's assuming you both agree, though. I feel personally, with the two being distinct series in many respects, that it could avoid potential confusion when it comes to searches.

It looks like you have everything for those guys.

I added Big Magnum in for you, which - touch wood - should look and fit the format of the rest. Angelman was an empty article with only an image, and Playerman only had an image, too. The images were either deleted (if they were bad quality or fanart) or renamed for clarity.

The names seemed clear, so I'm assuming they were the former. Fandom does not like to make it easy to find deleted files, though, so I'll have to find those - and either add them back or explain their deletion - in another short while.

    • Another thing I think we should be conscious of... Rather than deleting pages for characters who are being moved to the Minor Characters page, change them to REDIRECT to the List of Minor Charactes page, using # to indicate which letter of the alphabet they fall under. This way, if someone wants to hyperlink Lupin for example (I know he's linked in a few episode pages), it's not a red link, but instead, will allow you to navigate to the character info. After the bulk of the reformatting work is done, I'll go through each character and add redirect pages for them. Doing this will also allow you to add tags to the redirect pages so you can still have tags like "Characters from France".

        Loading editor
    • Not a problem.

I'll try to restore now and rework into redirects tomorrow, for pages already deleted, and I'll do that going forward, too. Thanks for the heads up 🙂

I'm cool with keeping the Nisei characters and the OG characters on separate pages too, but like I said, I'm not always sure which is which. When you guys get the chance, take a look at List of Minor Kinnikuman Characters and let me know if any of those belong in Nisei. I suspect maybe Mach and Crow Mask? Possbly others... Couldn't say for sure.

    • Yeah, I mean there's pros and cons.

If you want to merge Nisei with OG, I'm not against that. I thought about it since then, and it does have more practical reasons to merge them . . . plus, if it's a problem later on, the very nature of Fandom allows us to split them again. I'll leave it to your discretion.

A fair few are character submissions, so I wouldn't be able to tell you which list off the top of my head, either. We've had people suggest a page separate for character submissions in the past, but then it'd complicate things even more . . . if you merge them, I might just add onto the lede, specifying it's for minor characters, unused characters, etc. that don't have enough information for their own articles, and keep them all in one easy-to-find place.

I'll let others chime in if they agree/disagree, but I'd be happy either way.

    • I'm cooling keeping the 2 generations separate. As for submissions, I don't think it's necessary to separate them on their own pages at the moment, as long as we denote which ones are submissions, and add a lede at the top of the pages.

    • Thanks for moving over some character names to the Minor Kinnikuman characters list. That was super helpful. Although I've found that nearly all of the characters with little to no information that I've researched and expanded upon so far were incorrectly placed on the OG list and have ended up being Nisei characters. I'll continue to research, but my instinct is to move over the majority of the characters with no info to the Minor Nisei list.

That said, there are still a TON of characters from the List of Kinnikuman Nisei Characters list that I have not yet moved to Minor Nisei Characters. Any help with that would be appreciated as I'm more of an Kinnikuman OG guy myself. I'll still keep working on it, but similar help to what you did for the Minor Kinnikuman characters would be appreciated.

Also, as it stands now, I know there are a ton of character pages that should probably be moved to the Minor Lists as well. Many of them with the STUBS tag, for sure. Let me know which characters you think, and I'll do those too.

When ALL that is done, here are the two things I think we should do to optimize the wiki further:

1 - Revisit the List of Kinnikuman Characters and List of Kinnikuman Nisei Characters pages. Maybe retitle them to List of ALL Kinnikuman Characters and List of ALL Kinnikuman Nisei Characters and link where appropriate OR delete them entirely and...

2 - Create pages and redirect pages for EVERY single character and use tags to create those lists as Categories instead. *EDIT: On second thought, this one seems a little crazy.

      Whaddya think?

    • No worries :)

I would have done more, but we were edit clashing, so I thought it best to leave it to you and touch back in later, to see what else needed to be done. I'll take a look at the List of Nisei in a while, to see if anything can be moved over to "Minor Nisei".

In terms of which stubs should be moved, I think you already had a great eye for that, such as with "Do Koha", who I think I remember you mentioning could be moved in an edit summary (another one I was attempting to pull over actually, so no arguments there). I'd say any character with a stub article, but doesn't have a substantial speaking role (i.e. they couldn't potentially be filled in later on, like say chapter or episode stubs) could be moved.

      1) I'll check in with Alkaid on this one, but I'm okay with either option. I think making them extensive lists of all characters, with links, could be time-consuming, but perhaps more doable if we tackle an article each.

"List of Kinnikuman Characters" is a relatively popular page, but I think it's more because of its placement on the Top Nav and people needing a place to start in looking for characters (as opposed to searching with the search bar) . . . pros and cons; they could use the search bar instead, but it's also a used page and could be better served to be repurposed. I'm okay whichever you decide, though, and I'll happily delete and/or help in reworking them.

      2) To be honest, I'm not quite sure I understand this one, so I might need it rewording ^_^() I have a feeling that creating pages/redirects for every character will be a huge undertaking, though, even with dividing up the work, so it might be more practical to find a simpler solution (if one exists).

        Loading editor
    • In regards to 1), I'm wondering whether to remove the minor characters from the list, and simply retitle them "List of Main Kinnikuman Characters" with a redirect from the previous title. It might prove an easier option, instead of deleting it or adding all characters from the franchise. It's up to you, though, but think it could be an option to consider.

That's not a bad idea. Just include the "Main" characters (meaning characters with their own pages) and at the top, the lede could include a link to the MInor Character page too.

What I meant was creating redirect pages for EVERY character and then simply labeling those pages with Tags like "Kinnikuman characters" and "Kinnikuman Nisei characters". That way a master list of characters for both would be formed as a Category page rather than as a traditional article. But like you said, that's a crazy, and probably unnecessary undertaking. I like your solution better.

Awesome. I'll get on that now, then.
